Steve Moss, CPA is the partner in charge of tax and business consulting for Holden, Moss, Knott, Clark & Copley, P.A. a firm of Certified Public Accountants business consultants.  With over 35 years of experience in working with business clients and their owners on tax, financial and strategic planning, Mr. Moss’s responsibilities include dealing with unique issues facing small to medium sized businesses including new startup; business management; business development; business succession planning; internet or “cloud” businesses and systems; franchisees; medical, dental and other professional service providers; real estate developers and operators.  Mr. Moss currently represents a variety of professional athletes and other high income taxpayers and has assisted in developing creative tax strategies for them and their separate business entities to take advantage of federal, state and local income tax advantages and legal limited liability.

Mr. Moss received a B. S. degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975.  Mr. Moss is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and a member of American Institute of CPAs and the N.C. Association of CPAs.  Mr. Moss is a recipient of the Certificate of Educational Achievement in Tax Planning and Advising for Closely-Held Businesses awarded by the American Institute of CPAs.  Gov. James Martin appointed Mr. Moss to the NC State Board of CPA Examiners for two terms totaling six years, five of which he also served as President of the Board and Chairman of the Professional Standards Committee. 

Mr. Moss has been a speaker at various annual meetings, including the National Association of Convenience Stores, the NC Association of School Business Officers, and the NC Association of CPAs.  Mr. Moss currently serves as an independent director of the Hatteras Funds,  a family of SEC registered investment funds, since inception in 2003.  Mr. Moss and his wife Karen are proud of their participation in the operation of Family Health Ministries’ medical mission clinics in Cite Soleil, Haiti. They have two sons: Andrew (and his wife Kristin) of Greenville, NC, both of whom are in the banking industry; and Tim, an attorney in Austin, TX.
